Ballarat, a regional city 120 km west of Melbourne is steeped in gold rush history. A visit to Sovereign Hill is well worthwhile
you can stay an extra day or two. The night show, Blood on the Southern Cross is spectacular but must be booked in advance.
Air to Tullamarine:
The most convenient airport to fly in to is Tullamarine airport in Melbourne. You will need to allow 2 hours to get to the conference from Tullamarine by road so arriving on the same morning
as the conference will be difficult. Melbourne's second airport, Avalon is less convenient but still feasible (instructions below). AusDM 2011 operates a Tullamarine pick up service so
please indicate your flight details and email address on your registration form or
email Sally Firmin s.firmin@ballarat.edu.au. Pick up details will be emailed to you in late November once volunteers are organised.

Ballarat can be easily reached by train from Melbourne. Catch a Skybus from Tullamarine (every 10 minutes) to Melbourne's Southern Cross Railway station

Air to Avalon Airport
Jetstar and Tiger have flights to Avalon airport. You can get to Ballarat from Avalon either by going via Geelong or Melbourne. A Skybus
operates from Avalon to the Geelong Railway station where bus run though they are infrequent to Melbourne's Sourthern Cross Railway station
Rail to Melbourne:
Rail to Melbourne can be convenient especially if the airline dispute has not been resolved.
Rail Australia has details. Trains arrive at Melbourne's Southern Cross station where trains to Ballarat depart
hourly.

Getting to the Conference from Ballarat
AusDM is located on the University of Ballarat's Mt Helen campus. This is on the outskirts of Ballarat, some 10 km from the city centre. Most hotels are in the city
or between the city and Mt Helen. AusDm operates a hotel pickup service from most hotels in Ballarat. Pick up details will be emailed to you on registration. If in
doubt ask your hotel. Pickups start from 8.00am Thursday 1st. The number 10 Buninyong Bus travels between the city and Buninyong along Main Rd, stopping at the Mt Helen campus. A taxi from the city to Mt Helen costs around $20
